Bio

Elsie Stephanie (Hartl) Kratochvil, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Countryside Home, in Madison, Nebraska. Elsie was born on November 16, 1915, on Maple Crest Farm, in Stanton County, Nebraska, on land owned by the family since 1894. Elsie was the 4th youngest of 13 children born to Anton Hartl and Amelia Stoklasa. Elsiee was raised on the farm and attended rural school before graduating from Stanton (NE.) High School in 1933. After completing her normal training, Elsie taught in several rural schools in Stanton County, Nebraska for five years. She continued with her education during the summers at Wayne State Teacher's College, in Nebraska. On June 6, 1939, Elsie was married to Arnold Earl Kratochvil at New Zion Presbyterian Church, in Clarkson, Nebraska. The couple farmed and later operated a John Deere dealership. Elsie was a fifty year member of PEO Chapter AL. She served the Madison (NE.) Presbyterian Church in many capacities. She had long-time friends in the Dimick Township Ladies Club. Elsie loved to travel and always had an atlas at hand. Elsie was a wonderful Czech cook and gardener. She had a love for Husker sports. Elsie is survived by: children and their spouses, ret.nurse and dietitian JoAnn and State Senator, Les Seiler, of Hastings, Nebraska, ret.Command Sergeant Major, Arnold Michael "Mick" and Mary Kratochvil, of Gretna, Nebraska and Washington State Park Ranger, Kevin and Dellene Kratochvil, of Concrete, Washington; grandchildren and their spouses, Ginger McCormick, Richard and Kay Gorton, Stephanie Seiler, Gregory and Melissa Seiler, Bradley and Melissa Seiler, Tracy and Mike Beaman, Jennifer and Brian Steventon; twenty-one great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.. Elsie was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Arnold Earl Kratochvil; eldest child, Arnelle Snell and twelve Hart siblings, Rudolph, Anton, Miles I, Libbie, Bessie, Emily, Joe, Jarmil, Lumir, Mary, Miles II and Gabriel. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, in Madison, Nebraska.
