Rose Zihlman, age 95, of Windthorst passed away Thursday morning, May 6, 2004, at Hospice of Wichita Falls. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Windthorst, with the Rev. David Kraeger, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Archer City. Mrs. Zihlman, the daughter of the late Albert T. Schroeder and Rose Frances Seith Schroeder, was born May 4, 1909, in Tours, Texas, and moved to Windthorst when she was eight months old. She and Luke Zihlman were married May 29, 1928, in Windthorst. Rose was a cook for Ed's Cafe for 25 years and the Calico Cafe for ten years until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst and the Catholic Daughters for 77 years. She was an avid seamstress and made many bride's dresses and bridesmaid dresses. She also made quilts which she donated to the Windthorst Fire Department and St. Mary's Parish for fund raisers. After moving to the Archer City Nursing Center, she brought her yard decorations which all the other residents enjoyed with her. She took her sewing machine and continued to make quilt tops and enjoyed embroidering which she gave away to many people as gifts. Survivors include one daughter, Della Allen and husband, James, of Windthorst; one son, Randy Zihlman and wife, Lacey, of Windthorst; four sisters, Bertha Wolf of Windthorst, Frances Hoffman of Windthorst, Catherine Luig of Scotland, Texas, and Ida Hoff of Windthorst; one daughter-in-law, Sylvia Zihlman of Frisco, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke on Feb. 13, 1980; one son, Luke Jr. on Dec. 8, 1999; six brothers, Fred, Paul, Louis, Julius, Edward, and Al; and one grandson, Lynn Zihlman. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Ricky Berend, Michael Berend, Delbert Berend, Donny Berend, Lonny Berend, and DeWayne Aylor. The family suggests memorials to Windthorst Fire Department, P.O.
