Adolph J Matocha Jr., age 83, of La Grange, passed away on July 11, 2013 in La Grange, TX. He was born on August 28, 1929 at home on Radhost Road near Hostyn, Texas to his parents of Czech descent, Adolph J Sr. and Helen Adamcik Matocha. After Adolph graduated from La Grange High School, he went on to attend Durham Business College in Austin. After going to work in La Grange for the County Tax Assessor’s Office and Farmers Lumber Company, he met the love of his life, Helen Barina, whom he wed on June 9, 1957 in Smithville, TX. After briefly owning a local hardware store, Adolph, became a carpenter in La Grange and operated his own small construction company. He later went to work for the United States Postal Service from which he retired as Supervisor of Postal Operations. Adolph stayed very active over the years through his volunteer work with the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight for Chromcik Council 2574. He also was active with the local Boy Scouts with his sons where he served as Associate Scout Master and even became a member of the Order of the Arrow. Throughout the years, he continued to “work” at his passion of ranching. His love of the land was known by all who knew him. He was a member of both Holy Rosary Parish in Hostyn and St Peter and Paul Parish in Plum, where he served for many years in the Disciples in Mission Program. Adolph is survived by: four sons, Garry Matocha and wife Patti of Spring, Thomas Matocha and wife Lucy of Bastrop, Gregory Matocha and wife Julia of Murphy, Keith Matocha and wife Cindy of Magnolia; one daughter, Jennifer Gillie and husband Billy of Houston; eleven grand children; 1 great grandchild; two sisters, Veronica Bohuslav and Lillian Nash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph Sr. and Helen Adamcik Matocha, his wife Helen Barina Matocha and two sisters Georgia Holub and Bernice Janda. Visitation is scheduled at Fayette Memorial Funeral Home in La Grange. The family will receive visitors and rosary will be recited. Funeral services are scheduled at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
