Bio
Gene was the only child of Clara and William James Hellyer. All the other children of William James Hellyer were Gene's half siblings. Commodore Perry and Israel Vermillion were children of William James Hellyer's first wife...therefore not the full sibings of Gene. The other children were those of second wife Rachel Bills Hellyer. Clara was the third wife of William James Hellyer. Contributor: Cheryl Clark (48622874) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eugene "Gene" first married Veva Elizabeth Reinholdt on 24 February 1917 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. They had 2 daughters who both died in infancy and were buried in Prole, Warren County, Iowa. Gene and Veva divorced in Polk County, Iowa on 15 September 1920. Gene next married Anna Charlotte Johnson, a Swedish immigrant, on 1 April 1922 in Sac County, Iowa. Anna got a passport in 1923 so that she and Gene could visit her relatives in Sweden. She returned to Sweden sometime after the 1940 US Census and died there in 1975.
