Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska, Thursday, February 19, 1998 Page 8a, Col. James White, 78, of Grand Island died at his home, February 16, 1998. Funeral services are Thursday, Feb., 19, at 2 p.m., at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery with military rites by the Burwell American Legion and V.F.W. Mr. White was born Oct. 31, 1919 on the Nellie Frier place in Garfield County, Nebraska to George and Nora (Conner) White. The family moved from Garfield to Merrick County in 1924. He was educated in Merrick County. The family moved back to Garfield County in the spring of 1936. He entered the United States Army in 1941 and served until 1945. On Jan. 16, 1945 he married Mary Buss at Norfolk. The farmed in Wheeler County for 41 years. Mrs. White died August 5, 1981. In December of 1986, Mr. White moved to Burwell and in June of 1995 he moved to Grand Island. He was a member of the Burwell V.F.W. He enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Survivors include two sons, Richard and James Jr., both of Grand Island; a daughter, Colleen Hopkins of Kearney; six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvis White of Burwell; and three sisters, Bona Clink of El Paso, Texas, Dolly Foulk of Eugene, Ore., and Wilma Mason of Sacramento, Calif.
