Lois Mildred Clark was born 29 Jul 1903 in Altoona IA to parents BD and Kate Clark. She grew up in Texas, where she and her future husband Floyd Whitmore met and attended school. Lois and Floyd married on 28 Aug 1924 in Eagle Rock CA. The couple subsequently moved to Seattle, where Floyd worked for Sears Roebuck Co. until his retirement in various capacities (including buyer and watch repair). The couple's daughter Ruth was born 17 Aug 1925, and their son Don was born 15 Sep 1932. Ruth died on 16 Nov 1952 at the Lakeland Village institution near Spokane WA. Lois was a member of the Christian Church in West Seattle, where she was superintendent of the Nursery Department of the church school for many years. She was also a leader in the Women's Council at the church. During World War II, Lois was associated with a government-sponsored nursery school at Jefferson School. Lois was active in many community organizations over the years. She was a member of the Board of Management of the West Seattle branch of the YMCA. She was also president of the King County District Federation of Women's Clubs, and she served the Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs in several positions. Lois participated in the founding of two important state-wide programs of the Washington State Federation of Women's Clubs, the International Exchange Scholarship and the Community Improvement Program. Lois shared her husband's interest in conservation, and she was a state chairman in the Conservation of Natural Resources Department and in the Home Department. She was also a charter member and president of both the Federated Women's Club of West Seattle and the Meridian Study Club, and she was active in both clubs until her death. Floyd and Lois were keenly interested in people of other cultures and in the International Student Exchange program, hosting many overseas students in their West Seattle home. The couple also traveled abroad, visiting many of these students in their native lands. Lois enjoyed raising flowers and sharing them with her many friends. Lois passed away on 29 Mar 1971 after suffering from respiratory illnesses.
