NOTE: Ms Peak was originally buried in North Platte Cemetery on Aug 3, 1937, Lot 857. She was removed from North Platte on August 2, 1962 and re-interred in Blair Cemetery, Blair NE on August 3, 1962. Daughter, Ruth Wilma Peak Godfrey and her husband, Frank Andrew Godfrey are buried in the same lot Rose was buried in originally ( Lot 857) in North Platte Cemetery. Persons surname Edis are also in this plot location, but I do not see a family connection thus far. North Platte Cemetery memorial, 61299076 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AKA: Rosemary, Rosemarie (Obituary), Rosie, Rose May (Blair Records), Rosa Mae (North Platte record), Rosy ~ several version of her name on Census records. A middle initial of the letter M is reflected in numerous records, which may indicate a separation of the names Rose / Rosa, etc, from Mae / May / Marie, as opposed to a single name such as Rosemary or Rosemarie. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Obituary Tuesday, August 3rd, 1937 (North Platte Telegraph) ROSEMARIE PEAK Mrs. Rosemarie Peak, 48, wife of Charles O. Peak, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Godfrey, 2500 East Eighth street, at 8 p.m. Saturday, following a brief illness. She was born January 20, 1889 in Cozad, Nebr., and came to North Platte in 1924*. Survivors are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Godfrey of this city. A daughter, Iris, passed away in May, 1933. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 this evening from Maloney, Cox and Kuhns chapel. Obituary provided by Cindy Clark (#47466901) ~ Thank you ~ * Believed to actually be 1934 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rose / Rosa M Dowden Peak was born in Nebraska in January 1889. She was the daughter of Ohio* born James H. Dowden and New York born Hattie M. Fair*. For the census years 1900 through 1930, Rose was documented as being a resident of Blair, Nebraska. The 1900 US census has Rose living with her father, mother and her brother, Ray (b ca 1891, NE), At that time, her parents were declared to have been married for 28 years, and her mother was declared to be the mother f 5 children with 4 still living. Importantly, the family has also taken in a boarder, one Charles Peaks (Peak), age 18, who would marry Rose 8 years later on November 25, 1908, in Washington County, Nebraska. 1910 finds "Charley" and "Rosy" living as a couple in Blair. With the passing of the next 2 to 3 years, they had added two daughters to the family; Ruth Wilma and Iris D., b ca 1912, both in Nebraska, According to the US Census, Charles, Rose and their two daughters are still living in Blair 10 years later in 1930, but the coming years would see many events unfold in the Peak household, Oldest daughter, Ruth, married Frank Godfrey on December 3, 1932 and presumably left the family home at that time. Then tragedy struck the family in May of 1933 with the death of youngest daughter, Iris; an event which may have somehow precipitated the separation of Charles and Rose. The following, it seems that Rose moved to North Platte to live with Frank and Ruth while Charles took up residence with his older brother, Roy, in Cuming City Township, Washington County. Rose followed Iris a little more than 4 years later, passing away at the residence of her oldest daughter. She was buried in North Platte, and when Charles died in 1941, he was buried near Rose's family in Blair. Ruth passed way in October of 1962, but two months before her death, her mother was exhumed and relocated to the Dowden family plot n Blair Cemetery where she rests beside Charles, both in unmarked graves. Perhaps Ruth wished to know her parents were together; that any bitterness or hurt from years past was due to give way to the goodness they shared in life; to a time when they could be "Charley" and "Rosey" once again. With Frank's passing in 1995, he assumed his final resting place beside Ruth in North Platte, in the same lot where Rose was formerly laid to rest so many years prior. Much thanks to Cindy Clark (#47466901) for all the assistance with the Peak and Godfrey family research ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * On the 1930 census, Rose's father is declared to have been born in Iowa, and her mother is declared to have been born in Pennsylvania. NOTE: Charles's middle initial has been recorded as O in the marriage records and on the 1920 census, and D. on the 1930 census.
