Bio
Melvin L. Ashton, age 75 of Duluth died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Melvin was born July 25, 1937 in Aitkin, Minnesota the son of Purl and Margaret (Schmidt) Ashton. He attended school in Palisade until the 6th grade at which time he was blind. He then attended a school for the blind in Chicago. He then returned to Palisade and lived at home for a time before he moved to Duluth and worked at the Lighthouse for the Blind. He has most recently lived at an assisted living facility in Duluth. He loved to listen to stories on tape and also enjoyed monitoring the police scanner. He is survived by a sister: Rosie Terebayza; brother: Thomas Ashton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Daniel and Purl Jr. and 2 sisters: Imogene and Carolyn. Burial at the Lakeview Cemetery in Workman Township, Aitkin County.
