Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Alathea Snarr Hansen, age 89, died December 22, 2001, peacefully of natural causes at her son's home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Alathea was born March 29, 1912, in Douglas, Arizona, the daughter of Grover Skelton and Cordelia Webb Snarr. She married her high school sweetheart Anton Lorenzo Swensen, March 10, 1933, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death, January 29, 1949. She married John W. Kemp, April 24, 1951. Johnny preceded her in death, June 9, 1966. She married Clarence S. Hansen October 26, 1967. She devotedly cared for Clare, who has suffered from Alzheimer's for the last six years, until October of this year when her health seriously declined and she moved to the home of her son Darrell. Clare moved to Trinadad, Colorado near his family. Alathea started to work at the Cottonwood Maternity Hospital in January 1950 where she managed the kitchen. Later she moved to the new Cottonwood Hospital. There she served as the hospital chef for ten years prior to her 65th birthday. She planned to retire at that time but continued to work another ten years, baking (was well known for her cinnamon rolls each Wednesday) and making desserts, finally retiring in 1987. She has always enjoyed cooking, not only professionally but for her family and friends. She is well known for her banquets. Alathea enjoyed working in her yard planting numerous flowers and growing beautiful roses. She also enjoyed planting a small vegetable garden each year, raising fruit trees and was especially proud of the raspberries she grew and provided to family and friends. She has always been of service to others. She was a faithful and devoted member of the LDS church holding many church callings as both teacher and leader in such callings as the Relief Society and Young Women's organizations. She served in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers organization and has always been of service to her family and friends. Alathea was very gifted at writing poetry and produced a book of rhymes about individuals, family members, and various incidents in life. She also was gifted at writing road shows. When combined with the music and directing talents of close friends, most of her road shows won top honors in competitions. Alathea is survived by her husband, Clarence Hansen; daughter-in-law, Betty L Swensen; four sons; Marvin (Jolene) Swensen, La Var (Georgia) Swensen, Darrell (Valarie) Swensen, and Blaine (Joan) Swensen; two stepchildren, Robert (Susan) Kemp and Barbara Kemp (Avery) Oxley; a brother, Webb Snarr, and a sister, Alice Christianson, as well as 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
