Fremont Tribune (NE) - Wednesday, December 30, 2009 Lawrence E. Jelinek, 73, of Wahoo died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at South Haven Living Center in Wahoo. He was born Oct. 23, 1936, in Wahoo to Carl E. and Anna (Machacek) Jelinek. He attended elementary school in Wahoo and graduated from Wahoo High School. He married Dorothy Ostry on Aug. 30, 1955, in Prague. They lived east of Wahoo initially and moved to a farm west of Wahoo in 1968. In 2007, they moved to their home in Wahoo. He was a lifelong farmer and retired from the City of Wahoo where he had been the street supervisor for many years. He was a parishioner at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1833. He served in the Nebraska National Guard and had been the treasurer for the Center Precinct Board and a past president for the Rural Fire District. Survivors include: his wife; children and spouses, Larry of Wahoo, Robert and Ruth of Anaheim Hills, Calif., Teri and Joe Sloup of Lincoln, Jim and Rhonda of Wahoo and Ron and Maria of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Ann (and husband, Jack) Bruha of Dorchester; sister-in-law, Cecilia Jelinek of Wahoo; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson and a brother. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with the Rev. Charles Townsend officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Memorials have been established to St. Wenceslaus Church or School and the Wahoo Volunteer Fire Department.
