Mary Lovella Hayes, 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in Ardmore. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013, in The Chapel at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home with Lane Epperson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Lovella was born on July 14, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Clarence Ray Darter and Mary Ella (Bradshaw) Darter. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Claud Darter and Donald Darter; sister, Marie Davis; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Dylan Scrugham. Lovella was a graduate of Coleman High School in Coleman, Okla., and later attended college at the Higher Education Center of Ardmore. She owned and operated Lovella's Beauty Shop for many years and also worked for most of her life for Ardmore Public Schools as a bus driver and in the cafeteria. In her youth, she enjoyed camping and traveling in the United States, and traveling to visit her daughter in Italy and Puerto Rico. A crafter at heart, Lovella liked working with her hands, doing macramé, crocheting, and making ceramics. Lovella is survived by her daughter, Roberta Hagler, of Madison, Miss.,; two grandsons, Steven Scrugham of Hagerstown, Md., and David Scrugham of Nashville, Tenn.; and great-grandchild, Alex Scrugham of Orlando, Fla. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Scrugham, David Scrugham, Larry Don Sr., Ricky Landreth, Kenny Lowery, and Rodney Lowery. Family will receive friends today June 16, 2013, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., at Griffin~Hillcrest Funeral Home.
