ORD — William "Bill" Vancura, 105, of Ord died Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Brian Jenkins and Doug Mach will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Mr. Vancura was born Nov. 26, 1907, on a farm southwest of Elyria to Louis Sr. and Bessie (Klat) Vancura. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Doris Vancura of rural Ord; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Jerry Mach of Burwell; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Bernice Vodehnal of Loup City. At the age of 2, William moved with his family to a farm seven miles west of Ord and received his education at Fairplay Country School District No. 26. On Feb. 1, 1933, William was united in marriage to Agnes Vodehnal at Ord. The couple spent most of their married life together farming on the farm west of Ord, where Bill was raised In 1993, they retired from farming and moved into Ord and later resided at Grandview Living Center. Mrs. Vancura passed away on Feb. 25, 2006. The couple was married for 72 years. Bill had made his home at Rose Lane Home in Loup City for the last three and a half years. Bill served on the Fairplay School Board, Michigan Township Board and Ord Creamery Board. While living on the farm, he maintained the county roads in the Michigan Township and also worked as a repair lineman for the local telephone company. Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening and polka music. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes; a son-in-law, Jerry Mach; a great-granddaughter, Aubrey Mach; one brother, Louis Vancura Jr.; and three sisters, Bessie Janicek, Emma Vodehnal and Wilma Micek.
