Private John Benjamin Flemmons at age 31 of Sarepta, Mississippi, enlisted at age 31 at Grenada on April 29, 1862 in Capt Thomas G Clark's Company F, 42nd Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers. He mustered in Oxford, MS May 14, 1862. He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg and was captured on July 14, 1863 in Falling Waters MD and sent to the Old Capitol Prison at DC. As one of 2,051 paroled Confederate Prisoners at Point Lookout, MD In Feb 1865, he was transferred for exchange at Camp Lee, near Richmond, VA. The Lafayette Heritage book mentions John Benjamin Flemmons died in 1918 and is buried in unmarked graves the Flemmons Cemetery. His father William is also buried there. The Flemmons family came to Mississippi in the late 1850's from Cobb County Georgia. In 1930 an application was made by to have a military Marker placed on his grave in his honor in the "Wilson" Cemetery. The Date of death listed is 1917.
