married: June 7,1940(info from tombstone) parents of:Karen, Pat, Mike, Julie ----- ODESSA Services will be held at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, Odessa, Texas, 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 26 with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 6:00-8:00 PM. Lou was born March 5, 1921 in Calera, OK. She was the youngest of five children born to Lewis Gainey and Mattie Kate Hurst. She grew up in Kiowa, OK playing basketball, cheerleading, and singing in the Glee Club. She attended college in Durant, OK where she met William Frasier "Bill" Hewitt and was wed in June of 1940. They moved to Odessa in 1947 where they lived and raised their children until his passing in 1981, after 41 years of marriage. She stayed in Odessa until this past March when she moved to Plano, TX. She was a long time member of Eisenhower Church of Christ and now member of Gardendale Church of Christ, a member of the ABWA and a giving volunteer at all times. She was manager of Peyton's Hobby Center until her retirement in 1983, but her most important job was that of being a loving wife, devoted mother, and true friend. She was the embodiment of unconditional love to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and host of friends. She was the kind of sincerely caring listener that could draw-out a stranger on an airplane. The Bible scripture, Micah 6:8, so perfectly fits her life -- "This is what the Lord asks of you; only this, to act justly, to love tenderly, and walk humbly with your God." Her life is truly to be celebrated and was a gift to us all. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Odessa American, The (TX) - Thursday, May 24, 2007
