The Daily Oklahoman Oklahoma City, Oklahoma · Tuesday, March 31, 1953 Rev. McKinney, Orphans' Home Founder, Dies Rev. William Alonzo McKinney, 82, founder and first superintendent of the Baptist orphans home at NW G3 and Pennsylvania, died Monday in his home at 1410 NW 19. Mr. McKinney moved to Oklahoma City from Ardmore in 1907, after serving as pastor of the First Baptist church there. He. was appointed first superintendent of the Baptist orphans home, then located on S Pottawatomie. Later, he selected the site of the present Baptist children's, home and secured 40 acres from I. M. Putnam, developer of Putnam City. A native of Kansas City, Kan., Mr. McKinney was reared in Texas, and was a graduate of Baylor university in Waco, Texas. After graduation, he served as pastor of the Clay Street Baptist church in Waco. At the time of his death, Mr. McKinney was a member of the board of regents of Oklahoma Baptist university, Shawnee, and was a supply pastor at the First Baptist church here. He had also held pastorates in Durant and Marietta, in Oklahoma, and at Madisonville, Cleburne and Italy, Texas. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist church with burial in the cemetery at Ennis, Texas. Guardian funeral home is in charge of local arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Georgia Champion McKinney, of the home: a daughter, Mrs. John Francis Butler, 1516 Camden way; a brother, A. D. Cox, El Reno, and four sisters, Mrs. Jo Phenix, and Mrs. Anna McPherson, both of Fort Worth, Texas; Mrs Ira Langford, Martha, Jackson county, and Mrs. Ned Haymes, Comfort, Texas.
