The Waxahachie Daily Light Waxahachie, Texas · Monday, September 20, 1943 Ellis Co. Farmer Dies At Age 74 WELL-KNOWN PIONEER OF ENNIS COMMUNITY IS DEAD Funeral services were held at Ennis Monday for John L. Champion, 74, well-known pioneer farmer who died at his home near Ennis. Burial was in Myrtle Cemetery. Mr. Champion was born in Tipper County, Mississippi, and came to Texas when he was 12. He lived in Tehuacana for four years, then moved to Ennis, where he had resided since. He was married there to Miss Mary Emma Lang of Ferris, who with four children survives, three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Mahan, Ennis; Mrs. Victory Stapleton, White Plains, NY, and Miss Frances Champion, Ennis, and a son, Drue Champion, Ennis. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Bob Fowler, Ennis, and Mrs. W. A. McKinney, Oklahoma City
