Thanks to contributor #48796369 Vera Rima, 85, of Grand Island died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Karohl will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family. Mrs. Rima was born on Oct. 17, 1913, at Taylor to Guy and Elva (Howard) Hyde. She moved as a young child to Grand Island, where she grew up and was educated in the Grand Island public schools. She worked at Kauffman's Department Store. She married A. Clifford Rima on June 8, 1941, at Grand Island. The couple lived in Omaha, where she worked in the ammunition plant. The couple then moved to Fremont before living in Columbus and Norfolk. Mr. Rima died on May 4, 1960. Mrs. Rima moved back to Grand Island, where she worked at Peter Pan Baking Co., Nash Finch and for 10 years in the customer service department at the First National Bank. She retired in 1980. She lived at Riverside Lodge from 1995 to 1998 before moving to Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was a past deaconess and a member of the Dorcas Circle. She was also a volunteer at the Lutheran Memorial Hospital, a foster grandparent at Newell Elementary School from 1991 to 1994 and a past member of the Rebekah's Lodge in Columbus. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer (Mrs. Greg) Long of Grand Island; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura Ahrens of Grand Island and Thelma Engel of Enumclaw, Wash. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Dean; one brother, Glen Hyde; and one sister, Elenora Wyman. The Grand Island Independent - February 3, 1999
