Melvin helped his father on the family farm until enlisting in the Army in 1949, where he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Melvin was united in marriage to Claudine Hamilton February 19, 1950 in Johnstown, NE, where they made their home. After leaving the service, Melvin went back to farming with his dad where he continued his passion for agriculture. He returned back to Gallatin as a mechanic at Tate Oil Company where he always put the customers needs first. Melvin devoted his professional career to serving the community. After the couple retired, they moved to Cameron in 1999 where he resided until his death. Melvin was a dedicated member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cameron, where he served in any capacity that was needed. Melvin took great pride in his Church and was always there to lend a helping hand. He looked forward to the time he and Claudine spent together, whether it be traveling or playing and singing. Melvin enjoyed writing songs and was an excellent guitar player. He delighted in the time they spent volunteering at the area nursing homes entertaining the residents.
