Bio

MR. AND MRS. REINHART OLSON Morton Prairie Roots 1776-1976; Page 43 Reinhart Olson was born and raised in Norway. He lived on a farm named Felland, near Spangreid, and was a shoe maker and shoe repairer. He had four children; two sons and two daughters by his first marriage. One son was lost at sea. His second wife was Tonetta Treland. Her mother originally came from Holland. Janetta lived on a farm named Treland, near Mandal. It six children: Ben, Petrine, Rickart, Gustav, Tobias, and Tomina. All children were born in Norway. Ben came to the United States first. Petrine married and live in Norway for a few years before coming to United States. Olson with his wife and four children arrived in the United States in 1888, and settled at Sims, North Dakota. He was also a shoe maker and shoe repairer here. Lived only a few years after arriving here. He passed away in 1891, at the age of 77 years. After his death, Janetta continued living in Sims. She made quilts, spun her own yarn, did knitting, and made braided scatter rugs. She made many kinds of cheeses; some sold in some given away. With the help of her children she managed. Her place was a busy one on Sundays. After morning church services her children, grandchildren, and many friends would stop and spend the afternoon and have coffee and lunch. Her last few years she made her home with her daughter, Petrine, and son-in-law, Peter Hoovestol. She passed away in 1924 at Almont, at the age of 90 years.
