Bio

ORD — Betty R. Moudry, 87, of Ord died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, at Valley View Living Center in Ord. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ord Christian Church, with Pastor Scott Hausrath officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Moudry was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Garfield County to Arthur and Lorena (Hetfield) Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard. Survivors of the immediate family include a son, Donald, and his wife, Maggie (Bruha), of Ord; two daughters, Janice and her husband, Dan Shultz, of Grand Island and Sharon and her husband, Craig Brown, of Columbus; and a sister, Charlotte Kamarad of Comstock. Others surviving include four grandchildren, Jason Moudry and his wife, Bri, of Ord, Amanda and her husband, Lee Hadenfeldt, of Grand Island, Ryan Moudry of Sutton and Danielle and her husband, Mike Svoboda, of Grand Island; six great-grandchildren, Allie, Grady and Chance Moudry, Olivia Shultz-Svoboda, Atley and Axten Hadenfeldt; and many relatives and friends. She grew up in Burwell, receiving her education in the Burwell schools and graduating in 1946. After graduation, Betty worked for Arnold’s Jewelry and Gift shop in Burwell until the fall of 1948, when she went to work as a rural schoolteacher in Rock County. Betty was teaching during the 1948-49 blizzard and often shared with her family and friends the many hardships from this tragic event. The ongoing weather and trials she faced during this time discouraged her, so she gave up teaching and went to Denver, Colo., where she worked at National Carloading Inc. for a few years. Loving Nebraska, she returned to work for a short time in Grand Island and Burwell. On Sept. 16, 1953, she married Leonard Moudry. To this union three children were born, Donald, Janice and Sharon. Betty resided in rural Loup County with her husband for five years and then they moved to rural Valley County, where she spent many years as a homemaker, mother and grandmother until her husband Leonard’s health declined. In 2008, Betty moved to the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell to be with her husband. After Leonard’s passing in 2011, she then moved to Valley View Living Center in Ord. Betty was a member of Ord Christian Church, Jolly Neighbors Extension Club, Valley Red Hatters and WFLA Lodge 112. Betty always showed compassion and concern for others. Her strong Christian faith and love for God was apparent in her life. She enjoyed her home and her family. There was nothing that brought more pleasure to her than sharing her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments. She always encouraged them to do their best. Betty loved nature, the animals, majestic sunrises and sunsets, and the beautiful country life with its peacefulness. Betty enjoyed reading, especially inspirational poems written by Helen Steiner Rice. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lorena Hansen; and one sister, Dorothy Swanson. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice for future designation.
