Nebraska City News-Press (NE) - Friday, June 22, 2007: Henry E. Stortenbecker, Jr., 86, of Nebraska City, died at Duff's Friendship Villa - Nebraska City on June 14, 2007. He was born on Feb. 26, 1921 at Council Bluffs, to Henry and Friedichen (Speet) Stortenbecker, Sr. He married Janice Virginia Hays Nov. 5, 1941 at Maryville, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Janice Stortenbecker of Nebraska City; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry D. and Linda Stortenbecker of Auburn, Wash., Michael and Sue Stortenbecker of Omaha, and Roger and Jan Stortenbecker of Lincoln; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bob Beaver of Lincoln, and Marsha and Perry Biaggi of Nebraska City; son-in-law, Dr. Michael Portz of Red Oak, Iowa; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by daughters, Loretta "Lori" Portz and Lou Emma Stortenbecker . Henry lived in Nebraska City for many years and worked as parts manager at Masters John Deere Implement Dealer prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Commercial Travelers and had formerly served on the Wildwood Board of Directors and the Garner Township School Board. Henry loved woodworking, baseball, and family and was an avid collector of John Deere memorabilia. Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. Rev. Jeff Kelley will officiate. Private family graveside services were held at an earlier date at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
