Posted on theindependent.com January 15, 2006 ORD — Rosie Eva Buckbee, 91, of Ord died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Valley County Health System Nursing Home in Ord. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ord City Cemetery. Russell Barelmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at Ord Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Buckbee was born Dec. 24, 1914, at Sargent to Frank and Mary (Polan) Ruzicka. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Houska, in March of 1944. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard Bonne of Ord; a sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Glenn Cooper of Sargent; a brother, Emil Ruzicka of Grand Island; and two sisters-in-law, Verna Ruzicka of Ord and Florence Buckbee of Sargent. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Michelle Bonne of Littleton, Colo., Marsha McCulloch and her husband, Michael, of St. Paul, Minn., and Laura Montgomery and her husband, Mike, of North Platte; and three great-grandchildren, Katherine, Allison and Megan Montgomery. Mrs. Buckbee's early childhood was spent in the Sargent vicinity, where she also received her education. In 1937, she moved to Omaha, where she worked as a waitress. In that same year she married Edward A. Houska. To this union, one daughter, Mary Ann, was born. Rosie returned to Sargent and worked as a waitress, store clerk and dental assistant. She was united in marriage to Dr. Glen T. Buckbee on Aug. 24, 1957. The couple made their home in Ord. Mrs. Buckbee worked for 12 years as a receptionist for her husband's optometric practice. She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Nebraska Optometric Association. She was a faithful member of the Ord First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, served as an elder and deacon and was on the memorial committee. She enjoyed gardening, fancy work, reading, bowling and playing cards. Rosie was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always concerned about the well-being of her family, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Frank, Edward and Joe Ruzicka; and one sister, Lillian Pesek. Memorials are suggested to Ord First Presbyterian Church or the Ord Fire and Rescue Department.
