Bio

Thelma Eileen Myers Thelma Myers passed away peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2012 in Reno, Nevada at the age of 86 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Thelma was born July 10, 1925 in Englewood, Colorado to James and Alvina Shields. When she was young, Thelma's family moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado where she began school at the Okay Country School. Thelma's family moved to Arnold, Nebraska shortly thereafter, where she resided until after graduating from high school in 1943. After graduating from high school, Thelma worked at various jobs in Arnold, including working for an attorney, at the dime store, and at the ice cream parlor. Thelma married her high school sweetheart, James Arthur Myers, on November 10, 1945 in North Platte, Nebraska. At the time, Jim was actively serving in the Coast Guard, and was stationed in Alameda, California. After they married, Thelma relocated to San Francisco, California to be with Jim until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Thelma and Jim moved to Redondo Beach, California in the early 1950s. They both worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. Thelma and Jim later relocated to Fallon, Nevada in 1973, where Thelma became a homemaker, raising their two daughters, Tami and Susan. Thelma's interests included family, cooking, gardening, and sewing. She enjoyed keeping detailed family albums with family trees, photos, and memorabilia. Thelma devoted much of her time and energy keeping in touch with others, either by telephone or visiting in person. She also enjoyed writing letters, and would send dozens of cards and letters to many extended family and friends throughout the years, especially during the holidays. Thelma particularly enjoyed keeping in touch with classmates, and was an active member of the Arnold Alumni Association. She loved to attend the annual picnics they had in Arnold each summer. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Myers, brothers, Jack Shields, Donald "Mutt" Shields, and Chuck Shields, and sister Bernice Glaze. She is survived by sisters Molly Cooper, Doris Bowers, and Lois Jensen, sister-in-law Doris Myers, daughters Tami Murillo and Susan Myers, son-in-law Pete Murillo, and grandchildren Anthony Murillo and Taylor Murillo.
