John Janda Victim of Ill Health, Depression - John Janda, 48 years old, residing seven miles northeast of Palmer, took his own life by hanging early Wednesady morning. Ill health and financial worries are presumed to be the cause of his action. Mr. Janda had gone to the barn Wednesday morning to do chores, and when he failed to appear for breakfast the family found his body at about eight o'clock, hanging in the hay mow. Surviving are his widow, one son Bernard 19, and one daughter Mary, 12 years old. A sister, Mrs. Frank Trilety, of Omaha, arrived here Wednesday evening. Mr. Janda and family moved here about four years ago from Havelock where he had worked for many years in the shops. He was a good neighbor and well liked by all who knew him. The Palmer (Nebraska) Journal, February 17, 1938, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney ------ John Janda was born at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, May 29, 1894 and passed away at his farm home, northeast of Palmer, Nebraska, on the morning of February 16, 1938, at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 18 days. He spent most of his life at Plattsmouth and Lincoln, having moved from Lincoln to the present home about five years ago. He was married to Miss Anna Plihal at Havelock in 1916. Mr. Janda was of a quiet disposition and was well liked by the many friends who became acquainted with him in this community. He leaves to mourn his passing away, his wife, one son, Bernard, a daughter, Mary Lorene, his father, Frank Janda Sr. of Omaha, two brothers, Charles of Plattsmouth and Fred at Detroit, Michigan, three sisters, Mrs. James F. Taylor of Hillsboro, No. Dakota, Mrs. Fred Heinrich and Mrs. Frank Trility of Omaha, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. G.
