Bio

ISAAC HUNT JR. ST. GEORGE -- Funeral services for Isaac Hunt Jr., 56, lifelong St. George resident, who died at his home, 420 West 6th North, Wednesday at 2:40 p.m. will be conducted by Mahlen Ashby, bishop, in the St. George First Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Friday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the St. George Cemetery under the direction of Pickett Mortuary. Mr. Hunt was born in St. George December 11, 1864, a son of Isaac Sr. and Anne Newling Hunt, early Utah and Dixie pioneers. He was educated in St. George and before reaching his teens drove teams hauling rock for the St. George LDS Temple. During the boom years of the Black Warrior and Dixie area mines he freighted thousands of tons of ore to the railroad terminal at Milford and later Lund, Utah. He was always known for his outstanding teams. After the turn of the century he devoted his time to farming. On November 6, 1884, he married Mira Kelsey in the St. George LDS Temple and they had made their home here except for three years spent on a cattle ranch near pine valley. Surviving are his widow, one daugher and four sons, Mrs. Eltha Gillen, St. George; Clifford, William and Reed Hunt, Los Angeles and Edward Hunt, South Gate, California; nine grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren, five sisters: Mrs. Susan Perry, Oakland, California; Mrs. May Gubler, LaVerkin; Mrs. Louisa Jacobson, Mrs. Partha Cannon and Mrs. Addrell Carter, St. George. -Salt Lake Tribune, March 23, 1951, transcribed by Rhonda Holton ------------- Married Almira Kelsey on November 6, 1884 in St. George, Utah.
