"Stewart is his wife's maiden name, not his middle name. The death certificate is in error. His baptismal record shows "Spencer". Suggested edit: Buried with his daughter Amy Spencer Dewey Dunn Contributor: laura.a.olson (50340029) —————————— Suggested edit: William Stewart Dewey, one of our oldest and most highly respected citizens died at his home in Big Spring on Friday, October 6th. He had been a resident of Texas for more than 70 years. Going as a volunteer from Texas, he served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was a first cousin of Admiral Dewey who won fame and honor during the Spanish American Ward. During the 27 years that Mr. Dewey made his home in Big Spring and Howard County, he held the respect and esteem of all with all whom he had contact. Services were held at the graveside in Mt. Olive cemetery under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge, of which he had been a loyal member for 55 years. Survived by his wife; one son; stepchildren.
