William E. Novotny of Columbus died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Columbus Community Hospital. William E. Novotny was born November 13, 1923 in San Benito, TX to William and Frances (Yechout) Novotny. He grew up in Texas until moving to Schuyler when he was 12 to help farm his grandfathers land. William attended Schuyler High School. On April 14, 1941 he was united in marriage to Blanche Bernt at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Osceola. William started out working as a mechanic in Schuyler and later became manager of Rogers Tractor and Ford Equipment in Columbus for 32 years. William served as a volunteer fireman in Schuyler, Columbus, and in Wisner where he served as the Assistant Chief. He served as a delegate to the Ford Tractor Dealer Council at the Midwest Retail Farm Equipment Association Convention. William was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Knights of Columbus Council 938, and played for the Accordion Button Jamboree where he would frequently volunteer to play at different functions in the community. He enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, woodworking, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He is survived by: Wife Blanche Novotny of Columbus Son Richard (Maggie) Novotny of El Paso, TX Daughter Darlene (Jay) Wemhoff of Columbus, NE Daughter Debbie (John) Dunn of Monroe, NE Daughter Denise (Roger) Klitz of Greeley, CO Daughter Donna (Marlyn) Beisner of Waverly, NE 21 Grandchildren 27 Great Grandchildren 1 Great Great Grandchild He is preceded in death by: Parents Son Dennis Novotny Daughter Diana Studnicka Sister Magdaline Iya Hanel Great Grandson Wesley Sanders Great Grandson Miles Dunn Great Grandson Kyler Wemhoff Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
