Lawrence S. Nabity, of St. Libory, Nebraska, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska. Lawrence was born on Nov. 27, 1926, at St. Paul, Nebraska, the son of Lewis and Lillian (Polansky) Nabity. Lawrence is survived by: wife, Theresa I. Nabity of St. Libory, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Nabity of Alcester, South Dakota, Tom and Pam Nabity of Hawarden, IA., Don and Anita Nabity of Grand Island, Nebraska, Frank Nabity of Haysville, KS. and Arnold Nabity of Petersburg, VA.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Tom Tichenor of Derby, KS., Sylvia and Larry Frustaglio of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Nancy Maldonado of Victorville, California, Marylyn and Lonnie Ehlers of Aurora, Nebraska, Carol and Roy Williams of Coweta, Oklahoma and Ann and Monty Herrick of Alda, Nebraska; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille and Frank Ptacek of Weston, Nebraska, Loretta and Joe Petersen of Shawnee, Kansas and LaJean and Dale Radford of Mays Landing, New Jersey; 30 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Lawrence grew up on the family farm northeast of St. Paul, Nebraska. He attended Howard County , Nebraska rural schools and graduated from St. Paul (NE.) High School in 1945. Lawrence was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having served from August 1945 to June 1947. He then returned to farming with his parents. Lawrence was united in marriage to Theresa I. Radke on Sept. 17, 1949, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elba, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Elba, Nebraska for 10 years and in 1960 moved to a farm southwest of St. Libory, Nebraska where they lived and raised their family. Over the years Lawrence worked in construction, having helped build Grand Island (NE.) Senior High and the Grand Island, Nebraska VA Medical Center. He also worked for American Crystal Sugar Factory, the Grand Island (NE.) Elevator and St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He then was a seasonal worker for Northup King Seed Company, Phillips, Nebraska. Lawrence was a member of St. Libory's (NE.) Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1918, the VFW and Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119, all of St. Paul, Nebraska. Lawrence enjoyed gardening, fishing, casino trips and loved his grandchildren. Lawrence was preceded in death by: parents; sons, Roger Edward, Michael and Timothy Nabity; sister, Letha Jisa; brothers, Leo, Lavern and Lewis "Jerome" Nabity, Jr. and great-granddaughter, Katelin Lahm. Burial was in the St. Libory's Catholic Cemetery, St. Libory, Nebraska with graveside military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul, Nebraska.
