Wayne E. Bedson, 84, of 1557 Linwood died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky. He was born in Cardington on December 9, 1918, to Walter and Emma West Bedson, who preceded him in death. He moved to Bucyrus from Galion in 1973 and was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Galion Shrine Club, Galion Lodge #414 F& AM, Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Club of Galion, Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, Local Council Chapter Consistory Valley of Columbus, and Aladdin Temple A.A.ONMS of Columbus. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during WWII aboard the aircraft carrier USS Barnes. Mr. Bedson also played semi-professional football. He worked as a truck driver for American Tower in Shelby, retiring in 1988 after 21 years and had previously worked at Hercules, Galion Air Freight. He also served with the Civil Air Patrol, had been a pilot and instructor at Galion airport, owner of H & W Hobby Shop, and a certified Duncan Ceramic instructor. He is survived by his fiancée, Helen Detrick of Bucyrus; daughter, Letisha Ruth of Galion; two sisters, Marybelle Koon and Beverly Garverick of Galion; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Bedson of Galion; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Wayne E. Bedson, in 2000; his first wife, Maxine Crissinger; and his second wife, Ruth "Betty" McGammon. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, where Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday with Larry Cawley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion, where military honors will be conducted.
