Bio

Death certificate shows date of birth as 1851 ∼ William Robert Casburn, 75, veteran barber and a resident of Fort Worth since 1881, died at his home, 1813 Eighth Avenue. "Uncle Billy" as he was known, started barbering in the fall of 1881 in a shop at the old Mansion House, keeping an accurate account of the numbers of shaves and haircuts, the record showing at the time of his death, 214,212 shaves and 83,250 haircuts. Casburn was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1851. He came to Texas in 1875. He had been a member of the Knights of Pythias for more than 40 years. Services were held at Gause-Ware Funeral Home conducted by Rev. C.E. Matthews, pastor of Travis Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife; three sons - Walter L. Casburn, E.H. Casburn, W.M. Casburn; one daughter - Mrs. A.C. Moss. Fort Worth Record-Telegram Tuesday, November 2, 1926
