Served in the C.S.A., 2nd Lt., 22 regiment, company G, volunteers; promoted to rank of Captain September 1862. REV. J.M. Apr. 9, 1830-June 15, 1892 age 62 years, 2 months, 12 days- OBITUARY: Rev. J.M. Pickens died June 15, 1892 at fifteen minutes past 1 P.M. of kidney disease. He was born in Audrain County South Carolina in April of 1830. He was a Colonel in the state Cavalry. He married Louisa Welborn in 1852. During the Civil War he was a member of the 22nd regiment of the South Carolina Volunteers. He came to Cuba Missouri in 1869, then moved to the farm where he died. He was the father of ten children seven daughters, and three sons, all are still living. The oldest child is Rev. L.W. Pickens of Leasburg. Buried in the Stewart Cemetery.
