Bio

Jeannette Rowntree Williams Sadler was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 23, 1921, and went to be with Jesus on April 17, 2013. A longtime resident of Oak Cliff, Jeannette was a lawyer, business woman, real estate investor, philanthropist and follower of Jesus Christ. Jeannette was always watching to see where and how God was at work and seeking opportunities to leave a legacy of love. As a lover of education, Jeannette was fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and French. Her passion for traveling around the world and ability to work cross-culturally opened doors for her to represent Hispanic immigrants in various legal matters. She was a member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church for more than 80 years and was a beloved Sunday School teacher. She graduated valedictorian from Adamson High School in 1938 and went on to complete both a Bachelor of Arts degree and Juris Doctorate degree in 1945 from Southern Methodist University. Jeannette was a godly woman who loved and supported not only her church but also her community. For many years she helped Hispanic immigrants secure housing in the Dallas area. She tirelessly sought to meet the needs of other people, especially those in the Oak Cliff Community. Her life's motto was "Loving God is loving your neighbor." In 2006, Jeannette received the R. C. Buckner Founders Award. She was awarded the Good Samaritan Award from Dallas Baptist University in 2007, was the recipient of the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Ruth Award in 2008, received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from DBU in 2010, and served several years as a member of the DBU Board of Trustees. Jeannette was instrumental in supporting the Texas Baptist World Hunger efforts out of a passion to see spiritual and physical needs met. She enjoyed her service and giving to the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation who led this hunger relief initiative. In 2013, the Jeannette and Cletys Sadler Global Missions Center was completed; it was Jeannette's prayer that this beautiful new building on the DBU campus help equip and prepare students for their role as servant leaders in order to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, Oran and Opal Rowntree, brother Winston Rowntree, and her loving husband, Cletys Sadler. She is survived by nieces Susan Majors and her husband Tom, and by Nancy Schair and her husband John. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 9:30 a.m. at Sparkman-Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. A Memorial Service will follow at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas at 11:00 a.m. concluded by a reception at noon. Published in Dallas Morning News on April 19, 2013
