SUN CITY WEST, Ariz. — Marlene Glee Douglas, 80, of Sun City West, Ariz., formerly of Clarks and Ravenna, died Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, with the Rev. Richard Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery near Clarks. There will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a Time of Sharing following the rosary. Solt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Douglas was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Fairfield to Floyd O. and Genevieve L. (Widga) Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. "Bill" Douglas. Those left to cherish her memory include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Connie Douglas of Spearfish, S.D., Greg and Mary Douglas of Clarks, and Mike and Cindy Douglas of Cresline, Calif.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Mark Sutko of Omaha, Debra and Randy Dexter of Central City and Denise and Andy Bolling of Ravenna; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia and Bill Wurtz of Clarks, Janice and Dale Hogan of Lincoln and Floydene Brown of Hershey; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Elaine Morris of Waverly. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, Darin Douglas, Tara Newlin, Carrie Schnabel, Katie Twit, Nick Stuko, Doug Sutko, Jessica Sutko, Jason Douglas, Judd Douglas, Willie Douglas, Sarah Tlamka, Anne Haas, Joe Dexter, Ben Holloway, Dan Bolling, Betsy Larkin and Drew Bolling; 31 great-grandchildren (she was looking forward to the birth of her 32nd); and many nieces, nephews and friends. She grew up and attended school in Chapman and Clarks. On Aug. 11, 1949, Marlene was united in marriage to William R. "Bill" Douglas. They made their home in Clarks, where they owned and operated Wm. Douglas and Co. Grocery. In 1982, Marlene and Bill moved to Ravenna where they owned and operated Doug's Super. They retired in 1987 and spent time between Sun City West, Ariz., and Clarks until 1993, when they moved permanently to Sun City West. They were blessed with six children and Marlene was a loving wife and mother. Bill died April 28, 2000, and Marlene continued to live in Sun City West until her illness. Marlene belonged to St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clarks, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Sun City. She was a member of the Red Hats, Nebraska Club, Elks, VFW Auxiliary and P.E.O. Chapter CB. She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to have been able to make a trip to Arizona with her children in March. She also enjoyed making new friends, baking delicious pies, reading the newspaper, playing cards and games; but she especially enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends.
