Bio

Clara Dell McBride Hathorn, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with the Lord on November 14, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born March 19, 1926 to Homer McBride and Adell Bennett McBride; Clara grew up in a home in the Scrub Creek area filled with love, laughter, hard-work, and the unseen presence of the Lord. She graduated from Centerville High School where she later taught music. She married Winfred Hathorn in 1944 beginning a 67 year loving and nurturing relationship. Clara began working at a Groveton florist while her children attended school. She then worked in the Trinity County Tax Assessor Collector's office for seventeen and a half years before being elected Tax Assessor Collector, holding a one-term office before retiring. During her term the historical change from a manual system to a computerized system was made. She enjoyed meeting and serving the people in her hometown and community. Clara was a wonderful homemaker and so proud of her family. She always loved cooking for her family and friends. Children and grandchildren always knew there would be good food to greet them at Ma-Ma's house! Of Clara's many hobbies, Canasta was by far her most precious past-time. She played for over fifty years and made some of her closest and dearest friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Dorothy; brothers, Hubert, Samuel, Elvin, and Arnold
