Bio
Matilda Ann Earnest was married five times but only had two children, one died at birth or soon after, the other was Belle Gurganus (my great grandmother). First marriage was to James Monroe Gurganus in 1899. Marriage ended in divorce. Second marriage was to Thomas Oliver Higginbotham in 1913. Marriage ended in divorce. Third marriage was to Peter Howard Mathis in about 1924. This marriage ended in divorce in 1950. Fourth marriage was to James Walter Covin in 1951 in Houston, TX. Walter passed away four years later in 1955. Fifth marriage was to Edgar Dewey Deason in 1961, the year I was born. Dewey drowned in a boating accident while fishing on or near the Warrior River in 1964. Tilda Deason, my 2ggm, my Grannie died on Sunday, Mothers Day in 1964. I was 11years old and remember her very well. A fine lady of her time, known by many in Walker county. She had many stories of back in the day and has been truly missed by her entire family.
