Bio

James' was born to Ambrose Taylor and Ambrose's first wife Abigail Meade on Feb. 16, 1823, in Blendon Township, Franklin County, Ohio. The family moved into the Lafayette, Indiana area and relocated to Illinois in 1841. James was very ambitious, starting a teaming business and farming with his father. He later purchased his father's farm and other property. James married Martha Conway on either Dec. 21, 1852 or Dec. 13, 1853. Martha's parents were Jesse and Nancy Conway.
