Bio

Richard W. Cole Aug. 22, 1921 - Jan. 13, 2001 Dick Cole, 79, Payette, formerly of New Meadows joined his friends and his wife in a Heavenly pinochle game Jan. 13, 2001. He will pitch a horse shoe or two, sing songs, recite poetry and love the children in Heaven just like he did his own. He will probably hear the same words from our Lord as his employer Kendo Yasuda used to tell him, "Richard, I tell you what I am going to let you do". Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 502 N. 11th St., Payette. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Richard Wallace Cole was born Aug. 22, 1921, at New Plymouth, Idaho to Herbert and Elva Cole. Dick raised his family, worked at several jobs in the area and retired from Evergreen Forest Products, in Tamarack, Idaho, in 1983. He married Georgenne Brumet in 1938 and from this union three children were born, Barbara, Gloria and Keith. He left his family and defended his county in 1944 and was wounded in action during the occupation of Okinawa, receiving a Purple Heart. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Payette Valley where Dick and Georgenne were later divorced. Dick married Marguerite Derrick in 1946. Barbara, Gloria, Keith and Marguerite's children, Frank, Mike, Dorothy, and Alpha were joined by a new baby, Terri. After a long illness Marguerite passed away. Struggling on their own, raising their many children, Dick met Louise Givens and they fell in love for a lifetime, they were married Dec. 22, 1956. Bonnie, Margaret, Charles and Jeff joined the Cole brood and Randy, Becky and Rod rounded out the clan. Dick and Louise moved to New Meadows after they were married where they lived for several years until they moved to Payette to avoid the harsh winters and be closer to their children. Their family continued to grow with the addition of spouses and their children. Louise joined her Lord in February of 1999. The family and babies brought Dick the greatest joys in his life. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, picnics, picking huckleberries and anything that involved the family. Even cutting wood for the winter was an outing and a time to be with each other. Her was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; a brother, Jim; three sisters, Janet, Phyllis, and Mildred; one daughter, Gloria; and one son, Keith.
