Ray Lanik July 10,1933-Sept 1,2006 Ray M. Lanik, 73, of Bridgeport, died September 1, 2006 at the Morrill County Community Hospital at Bridgeport. Memorial Service will be September 5 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Bridgeport. Inurnment will be in Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery at Bridgeport with Military Honors provided by the Bridgeport Honor Guard. Ray was born July 10, 1933 at Wahoo, NE., the son of Edward and Rose (Otto) Lanik. He received his early education in the Wahoo Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1951. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Peters, July 12, 1953 at Wahoo. To this union they were blessed with four children. Ray served with the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1957 when he was honorably discharged. He continued his education studies graduating from Midland Lutheran College at Fremont in 1959. He taught school and coached basketball at Wahoo for five years. In 1964 the family moved to Bridgeport where he continued his teaching career at the Bridgeport High School. In 1972, he received his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Chadron State College. He served as the full time Junior and Senior High School Guidance Counselor at Bridgeport before retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Roy Johnson American Legion Post #29 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2813 all at Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Education Association, Nebraska State Education Association and the National Education Association. Ray is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Tim (Cindy) Lanik of Hemingford, daughters Teri (Doug) West of Omaha, Tami (Arnold) Lopez of North Platte, grandsons Brian (Erin) West of St. Louis, MO., Nate (Jenny) Lanik of Alliance, granddaughters Sara (Adam) Breed of St. Louis, MO., Lindsey (Jeff) Burback of Sioux City, IA., Megan West of Omaha, Abby (Quinton) Day, Robyn Lopez and Lauren Lopez all of North Platte, sister Mary (Dave) Anctil of Altoona, IA., brother Lloyd (Lavona) Lanik of Wahoo, numerous nieces and nephews.
