James David Fuller biography: Posted 28 Jan 2020 by KathyFullerBroyles James David Fuller was born October 13, 1914, off Walnut Bend Road in Cooke County, Texas to John Thomas Fuller and Grace (Davis) Fuller. He was the ninth child of thirteen children. To his family he was known as Jimmy and to most everyone else he was JD. He grew up in Texas sometimes living in north Texas and other times living around the Waco, Temple, Moody area and in and around McLennan and Bell counties. JD married Daisy Lee Thomas on June 20, 1938 in Marrietta, Oklahoma, when he was 23 years old. Together they raised three sons: Dennis Eugene, Bobby Carroll, and Johnny David. JD was a Pfc in the US Army from April 11, 1944, to January 8, 1946, and served in World War II in Germany. He was in Company G 406th Infantry Regiment 102nd Infantry Division ("Ozark"). He earned the EMAE Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal and a Unit Citation of Merit. He returned home from France on the Argentina. Before joining the Army, JD worked at Camp Howze in Gainesville and also worked for the WPA. He had been a laborer at different places and after the war was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad (ATSF) on the section crew for 32 years and retired in 1974 at the age of 60. JD and Daisy raised their family in Gainesville living on Railroad Avenue, Smith Street, and 1108 Locust Street. Around 1961 they sold their house from Locust Street and it was moved to Ritchey Street. They then built a new home at 1108 Locust and it was their home until they passed away. JD worked hard to provide for his wife and children. He was a member of the Commerce Street church of Christ. He was a good cook but didn't share his secret recipes. JD loved to play dominoes and was the best I have ever seen. He only had a fifth grade education but he enjoyed reading the Gainesville Daily Register from front to back. It took him a little while to read it all but once he finished he could tell you almost word for word anything about the articles. JD also loved to sit in his rocking chair and watch The People's Court with Judge Wapner. JD and Daisy were married 57 years. Though they still owned their home on Locust Street, in their later life, JD moved himself and Daisy to a nursing home to help in Daisy's care. He always made sure they were taking good care of his Daisy Lee. JD passed away before Daisy on January 6, 1996, at the age of 82. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery alongside Daisy.
