Graveside services for Dorothy Pearl Davenport, age 89 of Hurst, formerly of Mount Vernon, were Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011 at Restland Dallas. Ms. Davenport was born March 12, 1922 in Franklin County. She was a graduate of Saltillo High School and Parkland School of Nursing in Dallas. As a registered nurse, she served in the Army Nursing Corp as a 1st Lieutenant during World War II and was stationed in Europe. After the war, she returned to Mount Vernon, and in 1946 she married Herman "Dave" Davenport. They started a family in Talco, later moving to Andrews , then Richardson, where she resumed her nursing career. After her husband died, she retired and moved back to Mount Vernon where she was a member of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She died Aug. 3 at Bishop Davies Nursing Center in Hurst. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, her father, Pat Orren, her step-mother, Syble Orren, and an aunt, Sue Foster. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Jim Swanson and Ginger and John Paul Jenkinson; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Jerry Orren; and many nieces and nephews.
