WPA / Civil War Vet CO A 2nd IA INF -- John technically joined the 3rd Iowa Infantry (rather than the 2nd), which was later consolidated with the 2nd after the 3rd was decimated in the Battle of Atlanta. From the Third Iowa Veteran Infantry Roster: Sylvester, John W. Age 18. Residence Wapello, nativity Indiana. Enlisted May 3, 1864. Mustered May 4, 1864. Recruit.
