Married May 25, 1945. Willie Fae Atkinson of Florence, Texas, age 95, passed away peacefully in her home on July 2, 2021. Willie Fae was born on January 30, 1926, at home in Williamson County. She was the second child and only girl born to George and Susan (Susie) Reagor. Funny story about that evening…19 years later she married the son of the doctor who was supposed to deliver her. Dr. O.B. Atkinson was late, and Willie Fae was early. Willie Fae attended school in Andice, Texas and finished in Florence, Texas once the Andice School House closed. Willie Fae Reagor met Tom Atkinson for the first time when he was playing Tom Sawyer in a school play that Florence High School theater students put on for the Andice students. Tom and Willie Fae wed on May 25, 1945 and began their great adventure. Tom's service in the Navy immediately took them to Rhode Island and Pennsylvania until World War II ended. After World War II they moved to College Station, Texas where Tom attended classes at Texas A&M and Willie Fae became the telephone switchboard operator for Bryan Field. One of their favorite activities while at Bryan Field was playing pool with hometown friends--a game that soon became a family staple in the Atkinson Household. Upon Tom graduating from Texas A&M, they settled back near Florence to begin raising livestock and children. Willie Fae stayed busy as an active citizen of Florence. She held numerous offices with the Home Demonstration Club, was a delegate for the State Farm Bureau Convention, a Girl Scout Leader, a room mother, and became the first female member of the Florence ISD School Board as a write in candidate. Willie Fae was an active member of the Florence Methodist Church for over 70 years. She played many roles within her church family which ranged from Sunday School Superintendent & teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher, choir member, church steward, conference delegate, and life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She often told others her faith was the most important tool she had. Willie Fae was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She was a master seamstress which resulted in many quilts, clothes, and numerous great teaching moments with her daughter and granddaughters. Willie Fae also enjoyed tending her garden and sharing her beautiful flowers and vegetables with friends and family throughout the years. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, one of her greatest talents and biggest impacts was her ability to make each child, in-law, niece/nephew, grandchild, greatgrandchild, and friend feel as though they were the most important person in the world when they were in her presence. Willie Fae will surely be missed. Willie Fae is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George M. Reagor, Charles Reagor, and Lon Dale Reagor, her husband Tom Atkinson, son Jim Atkinson, and grandson Brian Blackburn. Willie Fae is survived by her children, Sons Tom-Ed (Billie Jean) Atkinson, John Ben (Pam) Atkinson; Daughter-in- Law, Deby (Jerry) Yost; daughter Julie (Jeff) Collins; 10 grandchildren: Audra, Erin (T.J.), Joshua (DeLisa), Amber, Jammie (Trey), John (Cheyenne), Zac, Nick (Shawna), Kelly, Seth (Kaytlin); and 10 greatgrandchildren: Branson, Owen, Mackenzie, Madison, Brianna, Skylar, Caylee, Cade, Jack and Wade, and a host of family and friends.
