Joyce D. Graus, 86, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Tiffany Square Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Mrs. Graus was born June 29, 1926, at Wolbach to Simon and Flonnie (Becker) Wagner. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband of 67 years, Laverne Graus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Graus of Lexington, and Todd and Holly Graus of Jackson, Wyo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Joe Hays of Holdrege; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sue Schmer of Grand Island; and half-brother, Richard Wagner of California. Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan Graus, Michael Graus, Jason and Lindsay Hays, Scott and Natassia Hays, Sydney Graus, Rebekah Graus and Gage Graus and great-grandson, Cade Hays. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, Louis Schmer; daughter-in-law, Susan Thies Graus and sisters, Evelyn Meininger and Lola Randolph. Joyce attended school in Grand Island until moving to Council Bluffs where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Laverne Graus on April 11, 1946, in Council Bluffs. She was a member of the First Christian Church for over 60 years where Joyce was an active volunteer. She served as a Deaconess; member of Circle 5; was a member of C.W.F. and a noodle maker and part of the sewing group. She was a volunteer for the blood mobile for over 30 years. She also served as a lounge attendant for both the Lutheran Hospital and St. Francis Medical Center. She and Laverne were avid snow-mobiler's.
