Bio

Nancy Elizabeth was born August 2 1855 the daughter of George W. Staggs and Susan Theresa Fitzhugh, they were married in 1854 in Collin County. It was reported that Nancy was baptized by same Minister, Adam Scott, O.M., who performed her marriage to Charles Todd Warden on January 25 1872, Collin County, Texas, recorded February 17, 1872, page 476 Collin County Marriage Records. 1860 George W. Staggs and family were living in Parker County on June 20 when Census was taken. Family included: G. Staggs, 20, M, Indiana, S. Staggs, 22, F, Missouri, (1850 Census she was 15), N. Staggs, 4, F, Texas and G. Staggs, 2, M, Texas. George W. enlisted July 10 1862 at McKinney, Texas, for a period of 3 years, age 29, as a Private, for Civil War in Co. C., Martin's Reg.t, Texas Calvary (5 Partisan Rangers) He had a $200 horse and $25 worth of equipment. No one has an exact date of his death but all report it was in Paris, Lamar County, Texas. Nancy died January 19 1935 in the home of her son Charles WARDEN, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, OK and was taken to be buried in Fitzhugh Cemetery, McKinney, Collin, Texas to be buried next to her husband. They were the parents of eight (8) children. 1870 finds that her mother, Susan, 33, MO, had remarried and living in Collin County, Precinct No. 1 and Nancy is now 15, TX. Susan T. STAGGS and D. L. MYERS were issued a License to marry on 25 November 1866 by J. M. BENGE, County Clerk, Page 53, Collin County Marriage Records but no Official marriage was performed or submitted for recording. A grave marker for Susan T. Mires was found in Fitzhugh Cemetery w/ DOB 23 Dec 1836, DOD 12 Jun 1882, information from the Cemetery caretaker places her in next row behind George WARDEN, son of C.T. and Nancy WARDEN and there is a blank space next to her but no record of anyone being buried there per caretaker.. Dave MYERS death was found on a Record of Death form with a date of 3 Dec. 1904, Collin County. 1900 he had remarried to a Lynda (Malinda), 29 (1871), Kentucky, 16 years. They had one child. D. L. Miers married a Mrs. M. E. RUDD, August 19, 1883, Collin Co., Texas by Elder J. M. McKinney and recorded August 30 1883, Page 444. Malinda E. WILLIS, daughter of Newton A. WILLIS and Nancy Agnes CRAWFORD was born 20 September 1857, McCracken County, KY and first married a Charles RUDD, ca. 1875, IL w. 2 children. Marries MIERS 1883 and has a daughter Aggie (see 1900 Census); Remarries two (2) more times? A Local newspaper Obit describes his death and time an place of where David was buried. Source: McKinney Courier-Gazette, December 5, 1904 (page 2) D.L. Myers Dead Aged Citizen of Fitzhugh Mills Passes Away D.L. Myers who died Saturday at his home near Fitzhugh Mills was buried yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Fitzhugh cemetery, Rev. J.B. Snider conducting the funeral service. Mr. Myers was about 70 years of age and leaves four children, besides several step children and grandchildren. Gabe Stauge who recently moved to West Texas was his stepson. The Fitzhugh Cemetery is now the Forest Grove Cemetery. This is contained in the McKinney Library on microfilm of past newspapers of Collin County.
