Elmer Lawrence Morrison was born February 3, 1894 near Bancroft, NE. Most of his life was spent in Plainview, NE where he received his education and learned the carpenter trade under the supervision of his father. On January 21, 1917 he was united in marriage to Eulalia Zuerlein. In April of 1917 Elmer was a victim of a tragic hunting accident. He came upon a musk rat, which he shot and wounded so he clubbed his gun, struck the rat and the remaining charge exploded near his heart. His companion, Joe Bodewig, was some distance from him when he heard the cry of distress so he hurried to Elmer's side and then ran to the nearest telephone to call the doctor and parish priest. At the scene he received first aid and last sacraments. He was rushed by train to St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus where he passed away. The deepest sympathy of the whole community are extended to the young wife of two months, bereaved parents - Mr. & Mrs. C.E. Morrison. The Humphrey Democrat, April 6, 1917.
