Goldie Ruth Adams Dobber, 93, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Indian Path Medical Center after a brief illness. Goldie was born in Coeburn, VA and had lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Nederland, TX before returning to Kingsport, TN. Goldie served in the U. S. Army from September 1943 to November 1945 and earned the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, WAAC Service Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Ribbon. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Stanley Dobber; her parents, William and Frances Adams; her sisters, Virginia "Ginny" Taylor Virginia and Margie Bailey; her brothers, Worley Adams Sr. and Charlie Adams. Goldie is survived by her sisters, Sarah Vaughn and Viola Adams of Kingsport; brothers, Albert Adams of Nederland, TX and Ervin Adams of Rock Hill, SC; along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7 pm on Tuesday July 14, 2009 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street, Kingsport. A funeral service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Salley officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #3 /265 with the Tennessee National Guard. Burial will be at 11:00 am. Friday at Lauderdale Memorial Park in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gravely Baptist Church, 500 Gravely Road, Kingsport, TN, 37660. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Dobber family.
