CROSSVILLE — July 28, 1924—March 10, 2013 Arlene Jane Adkinson, 88, of Crossville, passed away peacefully March 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Cumberland Medical Center. The family received friends March 14 at Bilbrey Funeral Home, with a brief service following. Graveside service and burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL, March 25 at 2 p.m. Arlene was born July 28, 1924, in Prague, NE. She was raised in Wahoo, NE. On Oct. 4, 1944, she was married to Lt. Tinson W. Adkinson, who passed away March 31, 1993. They had two children, and Michael Adkinson, who passed away Oct. 17, 2011, in Galveston, TX. During their military years, they lived in Germany and Spain and all but four states where she was a member of the officers wives clubs and volunteered her services to many military functions. After retiring, the Adkinsons moved to Pensacola, FL, and in 1993, after the death of her husband, she moved to Crossville to be closer to her family. She was a homemaker, volunteer at Cumberland Medical Center, worked the election polls during season and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. She loved going out to eat, getting her nails done, potato chips, dancing and playing the slot machines. She loved joining her many friends, Vergie, Betty, Mazel and Verna, for the Friday and Saturday night dances. With every health trauma in her life, she would just ask the doctors to get her well enough to dance. She loved traveling, as she would say, "to see the sights," but 20 minutes on the road and she was asleep, a laugh from the family. The last two years, she loved wintering in Ft. Myers and loved the palm trees. She loved her best friend Betty Rooney as a sister and will be missed deeply by her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Churda Koukal; father, Frank J. Koukal; and sisters, Helen Shipps and Norma Breunig. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, who loved to see her dress up with all her finest jackets, purses and jewelry and go dancing. She is probably dancing in heaven. Bilbrey Funeral Home, Inc. (www.bilbreyfh.com) was in charge of the arrangements.
