Bio

Frank Crha, Sr died suddenly at his home Friday at the age of 77. He had not been ill and was visiting friends uptown the day before his death. Upon returning to the house after a short walk, he fell and died a short time later. Mr. Crha was born in Marsov, Moravia, Europe, January 3, 1865. He came to America when 23 years old and worked in this vicinity for several years. In 1890 he was united in marriage to Mary Horky. The union was blessed with six children. One daughter preceded him in death. They engaged in farming near Crete and in 1910 they moved to Ipswick, South Dakota and farmed there for nine years. Then they moved to Wagner, South Dakota and two years ago moved to Crete to make their home. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Mary Crha of Crete, four sons, James, Adolph and Anton, all of Wagner, South Dakota, Frank Jr, in the U.S. Army at Rice, California; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Hasek of Wagner, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; one brother, Louis Crha of Crete; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Stehlik, Mrs. Frank Burianek, Mrs. James Dedic, and Mrs. Stevie Riege, all of Crete. A daughter, Elizabeth, died in 1938 and a sister, Mrs. Adolph Aksamit, passed away about six months ago. Mr. Crha was a member of ZCBJ Lodge at Crete. Funeral services were held Monday, September 28 at 2:00 o'clock from the Rademacher Funeral Home with Rev. K.O. Zavadil of Wilber in charge, assisted by the ZCBJ Lodge. The Smrz quartet sang. Pallbearers were Joe Horky, Frank Stehlik, James Dedic, John Prochaska, Ben Shavlik,and Philip Kasal. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Source: The Crete News, October 1, 1942
