Bio

Madison James Williams, 84, a resident of Wheeler County for the past 34 years, died at 2:10 o'clock Monday morning at his home, 415 West 10th Street. Mr. Williams enjoyed excellent health until five years ago, and conducted farming operations at the age of 79. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, in the Church of Christ with Bro. Grady Cooper, minister, in charge, assisted by Bro. John Murphy, minister of the Hedley Church of Christ and Rev. Buell Wells, pastor of the McLean Baptist Church. Minister Cooper was in charge of the song service. Pallbearers were: Allen Bentley, Henry Johnson, Jim Clark, Paul Bentley, Jack Clark and David Clark. Clay Funeral Home was in charge of interment in Shamrock Cemetery. Mr. Williams was born in Monroe, LA, October 22, 1866. He moved from Knox County to Collingsworth County in 1916, and lived there one year before coming to Wheeler County and settling in the Pakan Community. He resided at Pakan until five years ago when he moved to Shamrock. He was engaged in farming and ranching throughout his lifetime. On December 14, 1898, near Taylor, Williamson County, he was married to Miss Jodie Coley. To this union were born 12 children, all of whom, together with Mrs. Williams, survive him. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Joe Williams, Shamrock; seven sons, Albert Newton, Shamrock; Roland D., Sunray; Paul Reginald, Los Angeles, Calif; Lee Roy and Howard, both of McLean; James, Gallup N.M.; and Ted, Palestine; five daughters, Mrs. Jenett Evelyn Johnson, Shamrock; Mrs. Jessie Alene Watson, McLean; Mrs. Betty Lou Bush, Cave Springs, Ark; Mrs. Ann Brooks, Medford, Oregon; and Mrs. Bernice Pearl Willingham, Shamrock. Also surviving are 29 grand children and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Williams united with the Church of Christ in young manhood. The Shamrock Texan, Shamrock, Tex., April 19, 1951
