From the Athens Review Newspaper June 24, 1948. Funeral services for Hendrix S. Barton who died Sunday morning at 12:15 o'clock at his home near Murchison after a short illness, were held at the residence Monday morning at 11 o'clock. The services were conducted by the Rev. R.L. Rhodes and Sister Elma Cullifer, with internment in the Edom Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Abney, Martin Edwards, Durwood Wright, Rube Barton, Carisle Barton and Malcomb Edwards. The Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barton was born on August 25, 1865, at Trinity, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Green Barton, and came to Henderson County in 1886. He was married to the former Pheby Jane Darden at Murchison on March 25, 1891. Mr. Barton was a farmer and owned extensive property holdings in the Opelika area. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Woodmans of the World, and had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years at Bartons Chapel. Surviving are his wife: four sons, Willie Barton of Murchison, Adrian Barton of Dallas, Bryan Barton of Wichita Falls and Bailey Barton of Los Angeles, California; seven daughters, Mrs. Hattie Abney, Mrs. Julia Edwards and Mrs. Sallie Johnson of Murchison, Mrs Mardie Lewis of Trent, Mrs. Alice Castleberry of Dallas, Mrs. Vinnie Farmer of Brownsboro and Mrs. Joe Nelson of Athens; one brother, C.N. Barton of Brownsboro and 52 grandchildren and 28 great grand-children.
